Please forgive my use of a word here. I need to describe what etymonline says. Etymonline defines “Paki” as "British slang for ‘immigrant from Pakistan,’ 1964, a shortening of Pakistani.’ This word is not slang or a shortening. It is a slur, and should be identified as such on the site.
These descriptors aren’t mutually exclusive.
We don’t usually class anything as slurs. You can compare entries for other “slur” words to get a sense the style we use.
We’re a word history site, and in many cases a word that is now a slur might not have always been used as such, which is one (but not the only) reason we tend to eschew the designation on definitions.
