Putz etymology is incorrect

Etymonline riterates the commonly encountered incorrect etymology connecting Yiddish putz with German putzen. This is patently wrong, because in North-Eastern Yiddish the word sounds like pots, and cannot be derived from putzen (u would have given i in Yiddish). Oxford dictionaries get it right: " 1920s: Yiddish pots ‘penis, fool’, of unknown origin.".
