While wandering aimlessly in Etymonline I stumbled upon an interesting “kakistocracy”, dated to 1829. Now I’m wondering if it would be the time to add a semantically related and almost contemporary “mediocracy”, dated by OED to 1830.
Perhaps the time is not yet ripe enough to consider adding also an “idiocracy”, but something in the air tells me that we won’t have to wait long…
