Many times I’ve seen frozen or canned beans (i.e. string beans, green beans, haricots, or whatever you call those) labelled as “frenched”. The manufacturers clearly intend this to mean “sliced lengthwise”, or perhaps “sliced at a steep angle, more lengthwise than widthwise”.
The people who run the bean-slicing machine might be surprised to read etymonline’s entry at “french (v.)”, which appears to claim that the beans are receiving some extra-special treatment back there.
