Cannot add mobile number

I have just created my account.
I want to add my mobile number (in the Android app) but I never receive the 6 digit code.
I am in the UK, so the country code is correctly shown as 44, and I have tried giving my phone number with and without the leading 0 but neither works.
Does this feature actually work?
What might I be doing wrong?

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about the issue. It looks like the trouble with receiving the 6-digit SMS code is due to instability with the AWS SMS service in the UK at the moment. We’re actively working on fixing this right now.
